The National Bureau of Statistics says Nigeria’s telecommunications sector contributed N22.68 trillion to the country’s nominal gross domestic product in 2023. Figures show that the top 10 states accounted for about half of the sector’s total output.
Lagos led the contributions with N2.74 trillion, followed by Ogun with N1.33 trillion, and Kano with N1.26 trillion. Oyo and Kaduna completed the top five, while the Federal Capital Territory recorded N824.2 billion.

Other major contributors include Niger with N814.8 billion, Rivers with N803.6 billion, Adamawa with N754.4 billion, and Katsina with N621.9 billion. Together, these states accounted for more than half of Nigeria’s telecoms earnings.
At the bottom of the table, Ekiti, Ebonyi, Yobe, Kebbi, and Taraba jointly contributed less than 4 percent, with Ekiti posting the lowest figure at N148.8 billion. The data highlights Lagos as the dominant player, responsible for over 22 percent of the national telecoms output.
