10,000 Police Constables Deployed to Strengthen Community Policing

A total of 10,000 police constables, recruited last year, will be deployed to their states of origin to strengthen community policing across Nigeria. This was announced by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, in a statement issued by the Force spokesperson, ACP Olumiyiwa Adejobi, on Thursday. The constables recently passed out after completing six months of training at various police colleges.

Speaking at the Passing Out Parade held at the Police Training School in Bauchi, Egbetokun stated that the newly trained constables would significantly enhance the Nigeria Police Force’s capacity to tackle local security challenges. He also revealed that the Force is aiming for an annual recruitment target of 30,000 personnel, in line with President Bola Tinubu’s approval for strengthening the police.

The Inspector General, who was represented by the Commissioner of Police for Bauchi State, Auwal Muhammad, urged the new recruits to uphold professionalism, fairness, and friendliness in their duties. Egbetokun also highlighted that the passing-out ceremonies were being held at four premier colleges and 12 Police Training Schools nationwide.

In his address, the IG emphasised that the constables had been well-equipped during their training to address the country’s complex security issues while adhering to the principles of the law, ensuring their contributions to national peace and order.
