At least 12 people have been killed in a tragic road accident on the Oko Olowo axis of the Ilorin-Jebba Expressway, Kwara State. The incident, which occurred around 5:35 pm on Wednesday, involved a head-on collision between a trailer and a passenger vehicle. Several others were injured in the crash, with emergency responders rushing victims to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Eyewitnesses reported that one of the vehicles involved was transporting cows and passengers from Ilorin to Ogbomoso, while the trailer was en route from Lagos to Kano. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has yet to issue an official statement, though a top corps official confirmed the incident in a telephone interview.

The police and emergency teams from the ‘G’ Division Police Command in Oloje quickly arrived at the scene, where they managed the aftermath. The bodies of the deceased victims were later removed by their families. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash, though reckless driving and excessive speeding are suspected factors.
This latest accident highlights ongoing safety concerns along the notorious Oko Olowo axis, known for frequent road incidents. The FRSC and local authorities have yet to confirm further details as investigations continue.
