Gaza’s Ministry of Health says 185 people died from malnutrition in August, with a further 13 deaths, including three children, recorded in the last 24 hours. The ministry warned that the humanitarian crisis is worsening as famine spreads across the enclave.
According to the ministry, more than 43,000 children under the age of five are suffering from malnutrition, along with 55,000 pregnant and breastfeeding women. It said two-thirds of pregnant women are anaemic, leaving mothers and newborns at extreme risk.

The UN-backed Integrated Food Security Phase Classification declared last month that parts of Gaza were in famine, the first such designation outside Africa. It reported that nearly 514,000 people are affected, with the number expected to rise to 641,000 by the end of September.
Since the war began on 7 October 2023, Israel has killed more than 63,600 people and wounded over 160,000, according to Gaza health officials. The UN Secretary-General, Antonio Gutierres has described the famine as a man-made disaster, while Israel has rejected claims that famine exists in Gaza.
