19 People Die In Kogi Auto Crash Fire, Says FRSC

At least 19 persons were burnt to death in a crash at the Okene Bypass on the Okene-Lokoja Highway in Kogi on Sunday.

The Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Assistant Corps Marshal Jonas Agwu, who was speaking in Abuja, said that the crash involved a Dangote Cement truck and a Toyota Hiace bus.

He also said it took operatives of the FRSC three hours to rescue two surviving victims of the crash. The survivors, according to Officer Agwu, were wearing their seat belts and managed to escape injury.

Officer Agwu added that the Toyota bus was travelling from Kano,  when the Dangote truck driver, travelling from Port Harcourt, while overtaking a vehicle, collided head-on with the bus.

According to him, the remains of the deceased have been deposited at Okene General Hospital, and the driver of the cement truck would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
