The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Joash Amupitan, says the technical problems that disrupted the electronic transmission of results during Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election have been eliminated and will not recur in 2027.
Speaking at a citizens’ town hall on the Electoral Act 2026 in Abuja, Mr Amupitan said the lapses which prevented real-time uploading of polling unit results to the INEC Result Viewing Portal, known as IReV, had been addressed.
He said that although the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System was tested in off-cycle governorship elections before 2023, the nationwide presidential poll exposed gaps in stress testing across states. He added that improved preparations and further testing would ensure seamless transmission in future elections.

Mr Amupitan said legal provisions allowing alternative collation methods are safeguards and not an expectation of system failure, and expressed confidence that electronic transmission will function effectively during the 2027 general election.
