25% Of Votes Not Required For FCT, Tribunal Tells Obi, LP

The court dismissed the claim of the Labour Party (LP) and Peter Obi that 25 percent of the votes in the Federal Capital Territory is a requirement for victory in the presidential election.

The panel presided by Justice Haruna Tsammani held that the FCT will be treated as though it were one of the states of the federation.

He said the provision of Section 134(2)(b) of the constitution did not intend that in calculating the two-third of the states of the federation, the FCT would not be treated as though it were one of the states as provided in Section 299 of the Constitution.
