The National Emergency Management Agency says 15 more passengers have been rescued from the boat accident in Kojiyo village, Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto State, bringing the total number of survivors to 25.
The canoe, carrying over 50 traders to Goronyo Market, capsized on Sunday. While 25 passengers remain missing, authorities have also recovered seven motorcycles from the river.

NEMA confirmed that its rescue team, working with the Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency, local divers, and other partners, is sustaining operations in the area. The Goronyo Dam has been temporarily shut for two days to aid divers.
Director General Zubaida Umar assured that efforts would not relent until all missing persons are accounted for, stressing the agency’s commitment to saving lives and supporting families affected by the tragedy.
