2Baba Marks 50th Birthday and 25 Years in Music

Nigerian music icon Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has marked his 50th birthday and 25 years in the music industry with a message of gratitude to his fans, family and colleagues. The Afropop star described his journey as “nothing short of amazing,” while honouring those who began the path with him but are no longer alive.

In a statement on social media, the multiple award-winning singer said his success over the years would not have been possible without the support of loved ones, industry colleagues, promoters, media, and fans. He dedicated the milestone to what he called his “African queens and kings” who inspired and sustained him through highs and lows.

2Baba announced that public celebrations of his golden jubilee have been postponed to allow for a joint commemoration with his 25 years in music. He said the combined event would create an “unforgettable experience” to celebrate music, life and love.

Rising to fame in the 1990s, 2Baba co-founded the iconic group Plantashun Boiz before launching a solo career that produced the global hit ‘African Queen’. He is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of modern Afropop, influencing generations of Nigerian and African artists.
