Approximately 30,000 individuals living with HIV in Kano State have received free treatment, authorities confirmed on Monday. The initiative forms part of activities marking the 2024 World AIDS Day, themed ‘Take the Right Path: My Health, My Right.’
Addressing journalists in Kano, the state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Yusuf, lauded Governor Abba Yusuf’s commitment to ensuring equitable access to quality healthcare. The commissioner highlighted that recent legislative measures, including a pre-marital screening law and an anti-discrimination executive law, reflect the government’s determination to combat inequalities that impede efforts to end AIDS.
“These steps will play a pivotal role in eradicating HIV in the state,” Dr. Yusuf said, reiterating the administration’s dedication to providing inclusive and stigma-free healthcare for all residents.
