46 People Killed In Uganda Highway Bus Collision

At least 46 people have been killed in a major road crash involving multiple vehicles on the Kampala–Gulu Highway in northern Uganda.

Police say the collision happened just after midnight near Kiryandongo when two buses travelling in opposite directions collided head-on while overtaking a truck and a car. Rescue officials say several others were injured in the crash, and emergency teams worked through the night to recover bodies and treat survivors.

Authorities initially reported 63 deaths but later revised the toll after confirming that some victims found unconscious had been mistakenly counted among the dead. Uganda’s Red Cross spokesperson, Irene Nakasiita, described the incident as one of the most severe in recent years.

Police have urged motorists to exercise greater caution, warning that dangerous overtaking remains one of the leading causes of fatal accidents in the country. Official data show more than 5,000 people were killed in road crashes across Uganda last year.
