A Russian passenger aircraft with at least 40 people on board has crashed in the country’s far east, with no survivors reported. The An-24 plane, operated by Angara Airlines, disappeared from radar while approaching the town of Tynda in the Amur region, which borders China.
Russia’s Ministry of Emergencies confirmed that the burning wreckage was discovered by a Rosaviatsiya-operated Mi-8 helicopter. Debris was found scattered in the remote area, and all those on board are feared dead. The aircraft had been en route to Tynda when contact was lost.

Regional officials say 43 passengers, including five children, and six crew members were on the flight. Among them was one Chinese national, according to China’s Xinhua news agency. However, the Emergencies Ministry reported a slightly lower figure, estimating around 40 people were on board.
TASS news agency reports that pilot error during landing in poor visibility may have contributed to the crash. Aviation accidents in Russia’s isolated regions remain a concern, particularly in harsh weather conditions and with ageing aircraft, despite improvements in safety standards.
