56 Dead After Violent Clashes in Guinea

At least 56 people have died following violent clashes during a football match that triggered a stampede in N’Zerekore, Guinea’s second-largest city. The violence erupted on Sunday after a controversial referee decision during a match between the home team and Labe, sparking chaos as rival fans stormed the pitch. Health officials had earlier reported dozens of casualties before the death toll rose.

The clashes escalated when fans of the visiting team threw stones onto the field, prompting police to deploy tear gas to disperse the crowd. According to local reports, the unrest spread to nearby areas, with demonstrators vandalising and setting fire to the N’Zerekore police station.
