The government explained that the airstrike targeted the camp of a notorious bandit, Muhammadu Fulani, forcing the gang to flee and creating the chance for the victims to escape. Most of those freed were abducted from Sayaya village during an attack on 11 August.
Authorities added that security forces had been deployed to the affected areas to restore calm, and promised that the rescued victims would be reunited with their families after medical checks.
