Eighty worshippers abducted during attacks on churches in Kurmin Wali community, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, have escaped from captivity, according to the village head, Ishaku Dan’azumi. He said 86 others are still being held by the gunmen.
In January, armed attackers stormed three churches in the community, abducting about 177 worshippers. Eleven people were reported to have escaped while being taken away, while others fled into nearby forests during the chaos.
According to Mr Dan’azumi 80 victims escaped on the same day of the attack but were unable to return immediately after losing their way in the forest. He said fear of further attacks forced them to hide in different locations.

The village head said contact was re-established after one of the escapees alerted the community to their whereabouts, leading to efforts to trace them. He confirmed that authorities have been informed, adding that search teams are still combing surrounding forests to locate anyone else who may still be in hiding.
