Australia’s Prime Minister has urged residents along the east coast to “hope for the best, but prepare for the worst” as Tropical Cyclone Alfred nears landfall. The storm, currently 125km east of Brisbane, is moving slowly towards the coastline, bringing violent winds, heavy rainfall, and massive waves that have led to evacuation orders and power outages affecting 80,000 homes.
Government forecasts predict Alfred will make landfall early Saturday, though meteorologists say it may weaken as it approaches Brisbane. However, conditions on the eastern coast are worsening, with strong waves battering the Gold Coast. Emergency services are on high alert as authorities brace for potential flooding and storm damage.
