The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has begun an investigation into the runway excursion of a commercial aircraft belonging to the Nigerian airline company, Dana Air, which skidded off the runway at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos State on Tuesday morning.

A video uploaded by a Facebook user, Oyindamola Omotayo, on Tuesday captured the moment after the aircraft skidded off the runway.

The passengers were evacuated safely, and no casualties were recorded from the incident.

Dana Air, in a statement on Tuesday, noted that the plane, with registration number 5N BKI, flew into Lagos from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja,

Dana Air says it had also updated the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) on the incident, adding that the aircraft involved has been grounded by its maintenance team for further investigation.

“We are relieved to confirm that all 83 passengers and crew onboard the flight disembarked safely without injuries or scare as the crew handled the situation with utmost professionalism.

“We wish to thank the airport authorities, our crew for their very swift response in ensuring the safe disembarkation of all passengers following the incident, and our sincere apologies and appreciation to the passengers on the affected flight for their patience and understanding.”

“We wish to reassure our passengers that their safety will always be our top priority, and we are cooperating fully with the relevant authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident,” Dana Air said.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Wunmi Oladeji, Director of Public Affairs at NSIB, noted on Tuesday that the agency had begun a probe of the incident.

She said, “Our investigators are currently on the site of the incident. They are investigating it. We will rely on their report to give the next update.”
