Aviation: National Assembly Directs Sirika To Halt Agencies’ Office Demolition

The National Assembly has directed the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, to halt the planned demolition of offices of aviation agencies in Lagos.

The directive comes against the backdrop of the two-day warning strike embarked upon by aviation workers’ unions which led to disruption of flight operations across the country earlier this week.

In a letter jointly signed by clerks of the aviation committees, Senator Abiodun Olujumi and Honourable Nnolim Nnaji expressed concerns over the frequency of industrial actions in the sector and the attendant disruption of flight operations in the country.

The letter directed the Mr Sirika to furnish the committees with all the documents pertaining to the sundry issues raised by the workers which include the non-implementation of the consequential adjustment to national minimum wage by some of the agencies as agreed to in February 2022.

They also note that the continuous threats of outright demolition of offices of the aviation agencies without alternative provisions for their regional offices is not acceptable.

The offices affected by the planned demolition include the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, (FAAN), Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, (NCAA), and the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, (NAMA) headquarters
