24-Hour Curfew Imposed by Taraba Gov On Karim Town Over Renewed Conflicts.

Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Karim town, the headquarters of Karim Lamido Local Government Area (LGA) and its environs.

The curfew, which went into effect yesterday, was informed by the killing of over renewed communal conflicts in some parts of the local government area after the killing of over thirty people.

The State’s Police Command Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Superintendent of Police Abdullahi Usman, called the ongoing crisis a “gorilla welfare” between the Wurkun and Karinjo ethnic groups of the area who have been at loggerheads over where the headquarters of the traditional stool of the area should be situated.

The Command has also blamed the ongoing attacks on the Karinjo community, adding that anti-riot policemen, soldiers and other security operatives have been deployed to the area.

SP Usman also said the Karinjo engaged mercenaries from the nearby Lau local government, a situation which led to the destruction of five villages belonging to the Wurkun.

In a statement, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Yusuf Sanda said security agencies have been mandated to ensure strict compliance with the curfew and any person or group of persons found violating the order should be dealt with in accordance with the law.
