2023 Elections – Presidency Rejects EU Report

The Presidency has rejected the European Union (EU) Electoral Observer Mission report on the 2023 general elections.

In its final report, the EU said trust in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had been severely damaged, especially as a result of the failure to upload the result of the presidential election electronically.

But responding in a statement on Sunday, Mr. Dele Alake, Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Communications and Strategy, said the report is the product of a poorly done desk job.

According to Mr Alake the report relied heavily on a few instances of skirmishes in less than 1000 polling units out of over 176,000.

He criticised the report, saying it relied more on rumours, hearsay, cocktails of prejudiced and uninformed social media commentaries and opposition talking heads.

Mr. Alake also said the 2023 general elections, most especially the presidential election, were credible, peaceful, free, fair and the best organised in Nigeria since 1999.

The presidential spokesman said there was no substantial evidence provided by the European Union or any foreign and local organisation that was viable enough to impeach the integrity of the 2023 election outcomes.
