Ties between Nigeria and Niger republic have been cut off today by theĀ military junta in the country after the efforts of the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) to resolve the ongoing standā off failed.
ECOWAS had issued a seven-day ultimatum for the reinstatement of President Mohamed Bazoum to avoid possible clash with the junta.
But President Bola Tinubu sent a high-powered delegation to the country to meet with the coup leaders, on Thursday.

The delegation led by General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd) only met with representatives of the junta.
Subsequently, Niger severed ties with Nigeria,Ā Togo, France, its colonizer, and the United States.
According to radio france, a member of the junta was quoted saying on national television that the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassadors of the Republic of Nigerā to France, Nigeria, Togo and the United States are terminated.Ā
