The African Union’s Peace and Security Council has suspended Gabon following the military coup in the country two days ago.
In a statement on X, formerly Twitter, the Council strongly condemned the military takeover and said the suspension was with immediate effect.

With this, Gabon can no longer participate in any activities of the AU, its organs and institutions.
The decision was taken at a meeting which was chaired by African Union commissioner for political affairs, Mr. Bankole Adeoye of Nigeria, and the current holder of the council’s rotating chair, Burundi’s Ambassador Willy Nyamitwe.
