The UN refugee agency, UNHCR, says at least $1 billion is urgently needed to support over 1.8 million people likely to flee the conflict in Sudan.
According to the agency, the funds will provide essential aid and protection to millions of people expected to arrive in five neighbouring countries by the end of 2023.

The UNHCR says the amount needed is a two-fold increase of what was initially estimated in May to be required to respond to the crisis, as displacement and needs continue to soar due to the conflict.
More than 1 million refugees, returnees and third country nationals have already fled the country.
