Minister Gives NIS 2-Week Ultimatum To Clear Backlog Of Passports

Minister of Interior, Mr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has ordered the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), to clear the backlog of passport applications within two weeks.

The Minister gave the order during a meeting with the NIS Acting Comptroller-General, Adepoju Carol Wura-Ola in Abuja yesterday.

The meeting was also attended by other top government officials and the Managing Director of Iris Smart Technologies, a third-party company in charge of producing passport booklets.

The NIS has a backlog of about 200,000 international passports pending.
