Civil servants in the Ministry of Works blocked access into the ministry premises in the early hours of Thursday.
The staff were protesting an instruction by the Minister, David Umahi, who stopped late workers from resuming at the office by ordering the closure of the ministry gate.
After a while, the Minister directed the gates be reopened, but the staff who described the minister’s actions as impromptu and without warning resolved to prevent access into the ministry.
They were seen chanting ‘he must go’ outside the premises.

Recall that Mr Umahi had, in a press briefing on Tuesday, accused directors of not supervising contractors adequately and conniving with them to increase road contracts.
He said the lax supervision was the reason roads in the country do not last long.
He also accused them of having blood on their hands over the number of people who have been kidnapped or have died in road accidents.
