The Federal Government says three trillion naira has been set aside in the 2024 budget for the building of one million shelters as resettlement homes for Internally Displaced Persons, (IDPs), across the country.
While on an inspection tour of just completed samples of the houses at the Idu IDP camp in Abuja, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Edu, said the samples were quickly constructed with the sum of ten million naira in under 10 days, utilising members of the IDP community as labourers to show what the project will look like when completed.

She added that the one million homes will provide shelter for about 5 million Nigerians, and will not depend on the national grid, but will use the solar energy to take care of the basic electrical needs like lights, charging of phones and basic ironing.
