The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) says Lagos leads a surge in internet subscriptions, which reached 163.8 million as of December 2023, compared to 2022’s figures of 154.8 million users.
This marks a 9.07% growth year-on-year, highlighting continued digital adoption despite economic hardships.
The NBS data which was released on Sunday, says internet penetration has witnessed steady progress even amidst challenges like fuel subsidy removal and currency fluctuations.

Lagos State leads the surge with 18.9 million internet users, followed by Ogun with 9.5 million, and Kano with 9 million users. These figures indicate the role these states play in driving Nigeria’s digital economy.
Rounding out the top five are; Oyo with 8.4 million, and Kaduna on 7.4.
