There are over 300 awaiting trial inmates locked up in Kurmawa Custodial Center, Kano, without proper documentation of their cases.
This is according to the Solicitors Scheme Advisory Committee set up by the Inspector General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun.Â
The committee made the discovery on Wednesday in continuation of its unscheduled visits to Custodial Centers, Police formations and Juvenile Homes.

The body, which is headed by Kano State Commissioner of Police, Muhammad-Hussaini Gumel, has the mandate to investigate cases of human rights violations of people with criminal and civil cases, document and forward the cases to relevant authorities for the appropriate action.
Most of the awaiting trial inmates have no case diary or any criminal record before their incarceration, while some were left in prison because they couldn’t afford legal representation.
CP Gumel assured that the affected inmates would get justice soon.
