Biden Calls For Immediate Ceasefire – And Tells Netanyahu US Support For War Depends On Steps To Protect Civilians

US President Joe Biden says an immediate ceasefire is essential in order to stabilise and improve the humanitarian situation, which he called unacceptable, and protect innocent civilians in Gaza.

According to the White House, the US president, speaking to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a 30-minute phone conversation on Thursday, also made clear the need for Israel to implement concrete steps to address civilian harm and the safety of humanitarian workers.

The US president also told the Israeli prime minister that the US support for Israel’s conflict in Gaza was dependent on that.

Commenting on the deaths of seven aid workers in an Israeli air strike in Gaza, the White House says President Biden emphasised that the strikes on humanitarian workers and the overall humanitarian situation are unacceptable.

A Polish man, 35-year-old Damian Sobol, was among seven people who were killed while delivering food to besieged Palestinians in Gaza with the charity World Central Kitchen this week. His death has resulted in a diplomatic spat between both countries, with the Polish foreign ministry in Warsaw saying it was summoning the Israeli Ambassador to Poland for a meeting.
