Court Threatens To Adjourn Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial Indefinitely

Justice Binta Nyako of a Federal High Court, in Abuja, has threatened to adjourn indefinitely the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

Justice Nyako, at the court session on Wednesday, faulted Nnamdi Kanu and his lawyer for delaying the commencement of the trial.

Mr. Aloy Ejimakor, Kanu’s lawyer, said some conditions need to be met by the court for his client to submit to trial.

He asked for a restoration of the bail earlier granted to the IPOB leader in 2017, and the relocation of his client from the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS, to a house arrest in order to facilitate free access to his lawyers.

However, Adegboyega Awomolo, prosecution counsel, opposed the prayers of the defendant, noting that Mr. Kanu is at liberty to appeal the court’s refusal to grant him bail.

Justice Nyako has fixed May 20 for the commencement of trial.
