Kenyan Members of Parliament are set to vote on the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over allegations of corruption and undermining the government. Gachagua has denied the accusations, stating in a televised address, “I am innocent of all these charges,” and emphasised his determination to remain in office, saying, “I will fight to the end.”

The impeachment process, initiated on October 1, has garnered support from 291 MPs, surpassing the required 117 signatures. If the National Assembly votes for impeachment by a two-thirds majority, the Senate will then be asked to uphold the motion.

While 11 grounds for impeachment have been outlined, Gachagua has not been formally charged, and no judicial inquiry has commenced against him.
