In response to a public backlash, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has withdrawn its controversial rule that required married women to provide a letter of consent from their husbands to obtain a visa clearance certificate.
The initial directive, which also demanded a passport photograph of the husband, triggered outrage on social media, with many condemning it as discriminatory.
The visa clearance certificate, issued by the NDLEA, is required by some countries to confirm that applicants have no drug-related convictions.

However, following the social media storm, NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi announced on Thursday that the agency had removed the controversial requirement, responding to widespread criticism.
