Federal High Court Chief Judge Rejects Nnamdi Kanu’s Request for Justice Nyako’s Recusal

The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho, has rejected Nnamdi Kanu’s request for Justice Binta Nyako to recuse herself from his case.

Mr. Kanu, the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), had previously expressed dissatisfaction with Justice Nyako’s handling of the matter calling on Justice Nyako to recuse herself.

While reassigning the case to Justice Nyako, the Chief Judge emphasized that she is the most appropriate judge to continue handling it, given her long involvement with the case, which dates back to 2015.

The Chief Judge directed that if Nnamdi Kanu persists in requesting Justice Nyako’s recusal at the next hearing, he must submit a written motion, including an affidavit outlining the reasons, and serve it to the prosecution team. Justice Nyako will then review the motion and decide.

Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, confirmed the situation and said they are awaiting an official court notice. Kanu had previously requested Justice Nyako’s recusal due to concerns over her handling of Supreme Court orders.
