John Mason, a member of the Scottish National Party (SNP), has been expelled over controversial comments regarding Israel’s actions in Gaza, described by the party as “utterly abhorrent”, “flippant”, and “completely unacceptable”.
The 67-year-old SNP member of parliament confirmed his expulsion on Sunday, expressing his disappointment with the party’s decision. Despite his ouster, Mason remained defiant on Monday, stating in an interview with BBC Radio’s Good Morning Scotland programme that he would not hesitate to repeat the comments that led to his initial suspension.
In August, the lawmaker posted a comment on social media alleging that “if Israel wanted to commit genocide, they would have killed 10 times as many” in Gaza. This statement was reportedly made in response to criticism of the “massacre” of Palestinian civilians, including innocent children, by another SNP member of parliament, who described the actions as a genocide.
