The Kebbi State Government has officially approved a new minimum wage of N75,000 for civil servants. This announcement came during the presentation of the Minimum Wage Committee’s report, established by the state governor.
The increase follows an agreement between the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Federal Government, which set a minimum wage of N72,000.
At the announcement, attended by national NLC leaders including Joe Ajaero, the Secretary to the Kebbi State Government, Yakubu Bala disclosed that the agreement was reached after extensive discussions with the labour union.
Mr. Ajaero commended Governor Idris for the increase but criticised other governors who, despite receiving more oil revenue, have approved only minimal wage increases. He stressed that the union will continue its efforts until more states adopt suitable wages for their workers.

On his part, Governor Nasir Idris emphasised that the welfare of Kebbi State workers is a top priority, drawing on his experience as a former labor leader. He confirmed that the new minimum wage would take effect from the October salary, with payments to be processed within 72 hours.
