The Nigerian Federal Government has expressed concern over the lack of intelligence sharing among law enforcement agencies, warning that this could hamper crime-fighting efforts.
Speaking at a three-day workshop in Abuja on Tuesday, Minister of Police Affairs Ibrahim Gaidam urged security agencies to abandon their independent approaches and prioritise the exchange of classified information to better address the country’s insecurity challenges.
While emphasising that Nigeria could no longer afford fragmented security operations, he recommended adopting a collaborative model similar to the West African Police Information System, WAPIS, a technological framework enabling police forces across West Africa to seamlessly share intelligence and strengthen regional security integration.
