Dangote Refinery Challenges IPMAN Claims, Says Cheaper Petrol Likely Substandard

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has stated that oil marketers selling petrol below its price are likely dealing in substandard products. This comes in response to claims by the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) that petrol from the refinery is costlier than imported alternatives.

In a statement, Dangote Refinery’s Group Chief of Branding and Communications, Anthony Chiejina, dismissed the claims from IPMAN and the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN), asserting that the refinery’s prices are competitive and benchmarked against international standards.

IPMAN’s national assistant secretary, Yakubu Suleiman, argued in a TV interview that members often choose more affordable options due to the high logistics costs associated with purchasing from the Dangote facility.

The association has indicated its intention to import petrol and sell it at prices lower than those of Dangote Refinery and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited.
