Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has said that the nation suffered an estimated financial loss of N300 billion due to the EndBadGovernance protests that swept across the country in August 2024. The protests, which spanned several days and involved significant public demonstrations, were held to voice discontent over governance issues.
The Vice President was speaking at a gathering organised to welcome protesters recently discharged by a Federal High Court in Abuja. The discharged protesters had been arraigned by the Nigeria Police Force but were acquitted earlier on Tuesday.
The Federal High Court decision, led by Justice Obiora Egwatu, followed a request from Lateef Fagbemi, the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, to drop the charges.
Vice President Shettima handed them over to their respective state governors, including Governors Uba Sani of Kaduna State and Abba Yusuf of Kano State.
