Lagos Bus Driver Sets Himself and LASTMA Officer on Fire

A dramatic and tragic scene unfolded on Tuesday along Lagos’s Oshodi-Apapa expressway as a commercial bus driver, in a desperate attempt to evade arrest, set himself, his bus, and a Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, officer ablaze.

Witnesses report that the incident began when LASTMA officers approached the driver for an endorsement inspection. In a sudden outburst of anger, the driver ignited his vehicle, catching himself, his conductor, and the LASTMA officer in the ensuing flames.

Traffic along the busy expressway quickly became gridlocked as emergency responders arrived to assist the injured.

According to Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment at LASTMA, the affected LASTMA officer has been taken to a hospital for urgent treatment, though the location remains undisclosed. All three individuals involved are reported to have sustained severe burns.
