Over 80 Transformers Vandalised During Recent Power Outage in Northern Nigeria says JED

The management of Jos Electricity Distribution (JED) has revealed that over 80 transformers were vandalised and looted during the recent power outage in northern Nigeria. The company also reported the theft of large cables supplying power to several communities, with Plateau State being the hardest hit.

Eng. Hamisu Wakili Jigawa, Chief Technical Officer at JED, disclosed that the vandalism significantly disrupted power supply in affected areas. He described the theft and damage to the transformers as a major setback for the company’s operations.

Jigawa urged local communities to remain vigilant and enhance security around electrical assets, warning that the ongoing vandalism would only continue to cause prolonged blackouts. He emphasised the need for collective efforts to safeguard these critical infrastructures.
