Abuja, FCT | Monday, November 11, 2024 – The Parliamentary System Support Group (PSSG) is set to host a National Dialogue on the Homegrown Parliamentary System, aiming to advance democratic governance in Nigeria.
The event, themed “Fostering Accountability through a Home-Grown Parliamentary System of Government,” underscores the group’s commitment to exploring viable reforms for improved political accountability and governance.
Initially formed by a caucus in the House of Representatives with over 72 members across party lines, PSSG has evolved into a movement comprising policymakers, academics, and engaged citizens dedicated to promoting informed discussions on governance reform.
With a bold vision for Nigeria’s future, and a primary goal of offering an alternative to the current system of governance, the group advocates for a transition to a parliamentary system by the year 2031.
The upcoming dialogue will engage diverse stakeholders – including public servants, civil society organizations, academics, and citizens – to examine the potential benefits of a homegrown parliamentary democracy, particularly in enhancing political accountability, representation, and overall democratic governance.
The event will foster engagement and collaboration on reforms that could contribute to a more inclusive, transparent, and effective government, with a focus on identifying practical solutions to strengthen accountability and responsiveness within the Nigerian government.
