Edo Queens, champions of the 2023/24 Nigeria Women’s Football League, made a stunning debut in the CAF Women’s Champions League with a 3-0 victory over Commercial Bank of Ethiopia FC on Sunday. The Nigerian club’s first-ever win in the competition was secured at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca.
Emem Essien opened the scoring just five minutes into the match, converting a precise cross from Folashade Ijamilusi and etching her name in history as Edo Queens’ first goal scorer in the Champions League. Edo Queens maintained control, with Ijamilusi doubling the lead early in the second half following a clever setup from Esther Moses.
Substitute Chukwuamaka Osigwe sealed the win in the 80th minute, finishing with poise after another assist from Moses. The victory places Edo Queens at the top of Group B.
Edo Queens will next face Egypt’s FC Masar on Wednesday, followed by a match against South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns on November 17.
