Military Deploys Troops to Ondo State Ahead of Gubernatorial Election

The Nigerian military has deployed personnel to Ondo State in support of the police ahead of the gubernatorial election scheduled for Saturday, 16 November 2024.

In a statement on Thursday, Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, explained that the military’s role is to back up the Nigeria Police Force, the lead agency responsible for maintaining internal security, to ensure a smooth electoral process.

Major General Buba further noted that Nigerian Air Force personnel are assisting the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by transporting sensitive electoral materials.

Meanwhile, the police have imposed a restriction on vehicular movement within the state, effective from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on election day.
