Abia Denies Nigerian Labour Congress’ Claim on Minimum Wage Default
Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti.

The Abia State Government has dismissed claims by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) that it has defaulted on implementing the ₦70,000 National Minimum Wage. Speaking at the Government House in Umuahia, the Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, stated that the Dr Alex Otti-led administration began paying the new minimum wage in October, aligning with its commitment to workers’ welfare.

Mr. Ajagba emphasised that the state is not among the 14 states yet to adopt the new wage, reaffirming the government’s promise to prioritise workers’ welfare. He added that implementing the minimum wage underscores the administration’s efforts to deliver on its promises to Abia’s workforce.
