Prominent human rights advocate Dele Farotimi’s latest book, ‘Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System’, has surged to bestseller status on Amazon, despite the author facing legal challenges.
The publication, which boasts an impressive 4.9-star rating and ranks 555th overall on the platform, has clinched the top spot in categories including general elections, political processes, and political commentary. Released on July 2, the book explores allegations of how Nigeria’s elite have leveraged the judicial system to further their interests.
Mr. Farotimi’s legal troubles deepened on Wednesday when he was arraigned before a magistrate court in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, accused of “criminally defaming” a lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Afe Babalola, whose name features in the controversial book.

The activist denied the charges but was denied bail by Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun. The court ordered his remand in custody until December 10, marking a dramatic turn in a case that has gripped public attention.
