A federal high court in Ekiti has granted N50 million bail to Dele Farotimi, a human rights activist, with one surety. In his ruling, the presiding judge, Babs Olaniyi Kuewumi, stipulated that the surety must provide evidence of two years’ tax clearance and a letter of consent from their bank.
Mr. Farotimi, who appeared in court on Monday wearing a pink shirt and handcuffs, was escorted by police officers. The judge adjourned the trial to January 29, 2025.
Last Friday, the inspector-general of police filed a 12-count charge against Farotimi, accusing him of cybercrimes, including spreading false information against Afe Babalola, a senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN), during an online interview. The arrest followed a petition by Babalola.
