The Take It Back Movement has vowed to proceed with its planned protests against the arrest and detention of human rights lawyer, Dele Farotimi, over defamation charges. Demonstrations are scheduled to take place on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, in Ekiti, Lagos, Abuja, London, and Canada, despite police warnings.

The Ekiti State Police Command, in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Abutu Sunday, on Friday, banned unlawful gatherings, protests, and the use of fireworks, citing public safety concerns and potential security threats. The police warned that intelligence reports indicated plans by certain individuals to exploit protests to incite violence and create panic.

However, a flier shared by the Take It Back Movement on its official X handle confirmed the rally would go ahead as planned. The flier, titled “Nationwide/Global Protest Against The Nigerian Judiciary,” called on Nigerians to resist being silenced. The protest in Ekiti is set to take place at the Police Headquarters in Ado Ekiti.

In a video shared by the organisers, activist and politician Omoyele Sowore condemned the arrest, stating, “An unjust act of oppression cannot stand no matter how ‘well presented’ that it was done under the colour of law!”
