Indonesian rescuers have recovered 10 bodies following flash floods that struck hilly villages in Java, the country’s main island. Two people remain missing after torrential rains caused rivers to overflow, devastating over 170 villages in Sukabumi district, West Java province.
Lieutenant Colonel Yudi Hariyanto, leading the rescue operations, reported that landslides and flash floods forced more than 3,000 residents to seek refuge in temporary government shelters. Authorities have urged nearly 1,000 additional people to evacuate as over 400 houses remain at risk from extreme weather conditions.

The disaster has caused widespread destruction, including 31 bridges, 81 roads, and 539 hectares of rice fields. More than 1,170 houses were submerged up to the roof, while an additional 3,300 homes and buildings were damaged, according to the local disaster management agency.
Authorities continue rescue and relief efforts, warning residents of the potential for further extreme weather in the coming days.
