Disc jockeys in Katsina State, known for playing recorded music at social events, staged a protest at Kangiwa Square on Monday over an eight-month ban imposed by the Katsina State Hisbah Board. The DJs called on the state government to lift the ban and allow them to carry out their lawful business without interference.
The protesters, carrying placards, decried the seizure of their musical instruments, estimated to be worth millions of Naira, by the state’s religious police. They claimed the ban has severely affected their livelihoods and demanded the immediate return of their equipment.

Their demonstration coincided with the official commissioning of the Kofar Soro-Kofar Guga Road dualisation by Governor Dikko Radda. The protest drew attention to the DJs’ grievances during the high-profile event in Katsina Metropolis.
The disc jockeys urged the government to address their plight and ensure their rights to engage in their profession are respected. The Hisbah Board has yet to comment on the protest.
