NEMA Provides Relief Materials to Flood Victims in Kano and Jigawa States

Dr. Nura Kano, the Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for Kano and Jigawa States, has announced that the agency has provided relief materials to victims of recent flood disasters in the two states. The relief items include both food and non-food supplies.

Dr. Kano made these clarifications in a telephone interview with Radio Now’s Buhari Abubakar, where he outlined the efforts of NEMA to assist those affected by the flooding.

“The National Emergency Management Agency in collaboration with the State Emergency Management Agencies, that is Optical Management Government, conducted a lot of assessment, on-the-spot assessment, where part of the people that supported the search and rescue operations and at the same time assessing the damages. So, it was, it is, based on that assessment that we conducted in collaboration with Jigar State and other relevant stakeholders, so the National Emergency Management Agency approved some related materials for the victims of that incident.”

“What the government is doing is a kind of relief, that is why we call it a relief. The relief items included food and non-food items. The non-food items comprise things like clothes, building materials, buckets, blankets, mosquito nets, etc. And the food items sometimes include rice, meth, seasoning, cooking oil, etc., etc.”

He quelled concerns about the intended recipients not getting the relief materials

“Today, we are going to talk about the importance of accuracy and we are trying our best to make sure that only people that are affected that are considered in distribution of these materials. Even though we are not perfect, we are human beings, we can make mistakes along the way but definitely we are trying our best. That is the reason why we call it on-the-spot assessment because we don’t take much time to assess the damages after the experiences before we take the records.”
